Juntos en esta pintura están San Francisco y Clare, ambos de Asís. Clare, nacida de una familia noble, escuchó a Francisco predicando cuando era adolescente. Poco después se unió a un convento bajo su dirección y finalmente se convirtió en la líder de su orden. El edificio a distancia puede ser la Basílica de Santa Clara en Asís. Este pequeño panel bellamente conservado data de finales de la carrera de Cima, y muestra al artista fielmente continuando un estilo originado por Giovanni Bellini en los 1480. De hecho, la firma de Bellini fue agregada más tarde, falsamente, en el fondo.
