Este trabajo forma parte de una serie de las representaciones alegóricas de los Cuatro Continentes que sirvieron originalmente como overdoors. Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo basó su figura de América en símbolos codificados en la Iconologia de Cesare Ripa (1593): el tocado de plumas y el cocodrilo. Como representaciones de santos u otras figuras que los artistas pretendían identificar, estos atributos eran señales importantes para los públicos históricos, aunque en el caso de los Cuatro Continentes, eventualmente se introdujeron en estereotipos racializados. Al igual que los otros frescos alegóricos a gran escala en esta galería, este panel fue probablemente separado alrededor de 1900 de la Sala Palazzo Valle Marchesini en Vicenza.
