La pintura fue comprada por el Barón Samuel von Brukenthal, a saber, la paternidad sin ser absorbida sólo como una pintura de los Países Bajos. La pintura parece estar relacionada con la idea de placeres efímeros de la vida (vita Luxuria), que mata al alma, representada por el pájaro aplastado la cubierta de la casa, con un énfasis obvio, en el caso de la obra de Sibiu la idea de que la prostitución o la debauchería, en general, es una muerte espiritual.
