La miniatura está situada en la tapa de una caja circular de marfil con monturas y forro de oro, hecha por Guillaume Denis Delamotte (nacido 1725, maestro 1756, trabajando 1793) en París en 1775. La caja lleva las marcas de carga y descarga de París para 1775–81. Cuando la miniatura fue recibida en el Metropolitan, se describió como la obra de un artista británico desconocido. En 1978 Hermione Waterfield lo atribuyó a Hull. El método de ejecución está de acuerdo con otras miniaturas firmadas por él. Este puede salir a aproximadamente 1790.
