El artista combina con audacia un tema tradicional de pintura, peonies, con un nuevo tema, nuevas razas occidentales de perros. Aunque el artista ha utilizado características del estilo tradicional de la pintura, sustituye a los perros por leones, que tradicionalmente aparecieron con peones. Se dijo que el artista posee tantos como cincuenta perros como mascotas para poder observar a los animales. El resultado de su esfuerzo es obvio en esta pintura. Esta pintura fue exhibida en la exposición inaugural del museo “Tei-ten” de la academia de arte imperial, y fue la primera obra en la colección de nuestro museo.
