En primer lugar, Vulcan acaba de sacar de la red en la que enredó a su esposa Venus y su amante Marte; los otros dioses, llamados por Vulcan, se unen al ridículo de arriba. Aparentemente sin esfuerzo, Hendrick Goltzius integró dos grupos de desnudos en poses complejas, llenando la composición con Cupido en la derecha inferior y Vulcan forjando la red en el fondo.
