Esta pintura representa el asentamiento de Hobart en el río Derwent, debajo de la impresionante forma del Monte Wellington. Anclado en el puerto son varios barcos de navegación y vapor de varias nacionalidades, incluyendo un barco de tres tallas volando una bandera americana y un vapor de paleta, posiblemente el KANGAROO. También se reconocen algunos hitos de Hobart, entre ellos el Dock de la Constitución, Victoria Dock, el molino de viento de Cowgills y la iglesia de San Jorges.
