Poderes dieron este busto el título Proserpina, después de la figura hermosa pero trágica en la mitología romana (ella era conocida como Persephone en la literatura griega). Proserpina, hija de Júpiter y Ceres, fue secuestrada por Plutón, quien la llevó a Hades para ser su esposa.
