Retrato del Presidente James A. Garfield (1831-1881), 20o Presidente de los Estados Unidos. El presidente Garfield está representado como una calva y barbudo, en un perfil frente a su izquierda, situado en un fondo verde oscuro. Aunque el artista James Reed Lambdin pintó al Presidente Garfield antes de ser asesinado, probablemente trabajó de una fotografía más que de la vida, debido a la postura rígida notable del Presidente y su apariencia como psicológicamente remota. La calidad inanimada del retrato también puede atribuirse al hecho de que esta pintura data de muy tarde en la carrera del artista.
