Serie Leeuwarden: Comandantes en Jefe de las Fuerzas GeneralesUn miembro de una noble familia flamenca, Joost de Zoete apoyó la causa Nasau. En 1576, mandó una compañía de 50 arquebusiers montados. Dos años más tarde, en 1578, la derrota holandesa en Gemblours resultó en la pérdida de Nivelles, donde había sido gobernador. Se distinguió en 1580, cuando sostuvo la ciudad de Bouchout contra un ataque de los simpatizantes españoles.
