En 1651, 1652 Embajador Joan Cunaeus y su secretaria Cornelis Speelman viajaron a Isfahan en Persia para estimular el comercio de caballos y seda. Speelman describió el recorrido, las lujosas recepciones y visitas a lugares antiguos. Ambos caballeros están probablemente acompañados por el sultán de Bandar Abbas. Cunaeus lleva una bata de seda, un regalo de la shah.
