Jan Brueghel el Younger formó parte de una dinastía artística que transformó el paisaje flamenco, el género y la pintura de la vida. Jan el Younger asumió el estudio de su padre Jan el Viejo en 1625 y aprendió de su práctica de animar arreglos florales con insectos y flores caídas. La mariposa encaramada sobre la canasta añade más vivacidad a la composición y puede tener asociaciones simbólicas con el alma y la resurrección.
