En 1828 Corot regresó a Francia desde Italia y pintó la Catedral de Chartres en 1830. Su encuadre y luminosidad muy original siguen sus experimentos en Italia. El artista retrabajó esta pintura en 1872. La pintura (64 x 51 cm) está ahora en la colección del Museo del Louvre, París.
