La rica ciudad comercial de Augsburg lleva mucho tiempo orgullosa de sus lujosos productos de oro y plata. Desde el siglo XVI ha habido alrededor de cien orfebres y plateros, cuyas obras han sido muy valoradas tanto en las iglesias europeas como entre la aristocracia. Copas de Augsburg, jarras de vino, decoraciones de chimenea, etc. son de excelente calidad, mano de obra precisa y buenas proporciones.
