Carlin hizo cuatro entradas consecutivas en su libro de cuentas durante octubre de 1846 para sentarse con los Allen Brothers. Los llamó "Eldest", "Second", "Third", y "Youngest". En el margen junto a los nombres, Carlin escribió, "En grupo de media longitud $50.00." William Barton Franklin Vanderbilt, y Harry fueron los hijos de la segunda hija de Cornelius Vanderbilt, Ethelinda Vanderbilt, y Daniel B. Allen. Vanderbilt Reconoció el retrato de sus nietos.
