El vapor Miguel M. de Pinillos fue construido en el astillero J. Laing en Sunderland (Inglaterra) en comisión de los armadores Pinillos, que lo recibieron en 1885. Detalles técnicos: longitud 109 m., viga 13.79 m., profundidad 9,43 m., tonelaje total 2,999 t. (2,125 nett), y propulsado por motores 1200 hp a una velocidad de 11 nudos. Se utilizó para la línea del Caribe, que posteriormente navegó durante más de 30 años casi sin incidentes. Sin embargo, después de la Gran Guerra (y un período en el que fue amarrado en el puerto) el armador Pinillos lo vendió a los armadores vascos Abrizqueta & Compañía, que lo renombraron Juan Abrizqueta. El barco navegó por otros tres años hasta que fue raspado en Holanda en 1923.
