Esta es una de las primeras pinturas al óleo de Turner de 1800, que representan el castillo de Dolbadarn del siglo XIII en Llanberis, al norte de Gales. Se piensa que Owain Goch ap Gruffydd, gobernante de parte del Reino de Gwynedd (en el moderno día norte de Gales) fue encarcelado en este castillo por su hermano Llywelyn, otro gobernante que busca extender su reino en 1255. Owain pasó 20 años encerrado antes de que Llywelyn lo liberara reticentemente bajo los términos de un nuevo tratado.
