Una historia china contó cómo un carpa saltó los rápidos del río Amarillo y se convirtió en un dragón. Carpa son símbolos de perseverancia, así como fertilidad, debido a los muchos huevos que ponen. Inscritos en la impresión son poemas de tres poetas diferentes que se refieren a carpa, cerezo, el vigor de un dragón y río Edo (Tokyo). El dragón representa el quinto mes del año en el ciclo japonés de animales zodiacos.
