Ganku se hizo famoso por sus meticulosas pinturas de tigres. Estudió por primera vez la pintura de estilo Kano y luego dominaba la manera más naturalista que el pintor chino Shen Nanpin (Shen Quan, 1682–1758) y artistas de la escuela Maruyama-Shijō. El estilo más vigoroso que desarrolló se convirtió en una marca de la escuela Kishi, de la que se considera el fundador. Esta pintura está firmada con su nombre de arte alternativo Utanosuke Ganku 歌楽 repentina.
