Hoy, probablemente la estudiante más famosa de cerámica de Michael Powolny y la Escuela de Artes y Artes de Viena es Lucie Rie (1902–1995) que fue estudiante de Powolny de 1921–1926 y permaneció conectado a la escuela hasta su exilio forzado en Londres en 1938. Como alfarero es hoy mundialmente famosa por sus creaciones formadas por la tradición asiática de la cerámica.
