Nacido en Atlanta, Lucy May Stanton estudió en LaGrange, Georgia, y vivió parte del tiempo en Atenas, Georgia. Pintó a muchos georgianos eminentes, incluyendo al alcalde de Atlanta Charles Collier, el autor Joel Chandler Harris y (posthumously) Presidente de la Casa Howell Cobb.
