Vista por Marianne Norte de una carretera cerca de Bath, Jamaica, con palmeras de col, fruta de pan, cacao y corales. Visitó Jamaica en 1871, y alquiló una casa de 20 habitaciones en el antiguo jardín botánico desierto. Había una magnífica vista de un valle empinado y prados de su terraza, mientras que en toda la casa había un enredo de plantas exóticas. Ella escribió "Estoy en un estado de éxtasis y apenas sé qué pintar primero". Sin embargo, se estableció en una rutina de salir a pintar a la luz del día y regresar a casa al mediodía.
