Intended to be insert into decorativo paneling over a door, this paint makes most sense when seen from below. Desde este punto de vista, la perspectiva dramática, las sombras y la sutileza del jarrón engañan al ojo para creer que esto no es una pintura en absoluto, sino la misma cosa. Este trabajo fue propiedad de Georges Hoentschel (1855-1915), un diseñador de interiores que tomó objetos de su colección como modelos e inspiración para sus proyectos. Alrededor de 1905, Hoentschel utilizó esta pintura como la base para las nuevas sobredosis de estilo Luis XVI en la casa inglesa Luton Hoo.
