Fue fundada en 1821, en la Academia Real de Nautica de Lima. Durante el siglo XIX experimentó movimientos entre la sede y los barcos, y desde 1915 ha estado operando en su sede actual en el spa de La Punta, en Callao. La Escuela Naval del Perú es un centro de estudios superiores a nivel de pregrado, que forma parte del sistema educativo universitario peruano. Históricamente, su trabajo principal ha sido formar cadetes y solicitantes para el servicio naval militar, profesional y físicamente. Asimismo, también buscan instruir y capacitar la conciencia naval en oficiales asimilados.
