The Leeuwarden Series: Adversaries of the RepublicPara la biografía de Spinola vea la entrada en el retrato de Van Mierevelt (SK-A-3953). Esa pintura, fechada en 1609, fue el prototipo del presente trabajo. Contrariamente a lo que se dice en los catálogos anteriores de Rijksmuseum, este retrato de la longitud de busto de Spinola no está firmado por Van Mierevelt; su nombre es meramente inscrito en el panel.
