Clemence Sophie Harned Lozier estableció la primera escuela médica para mujeres en Nueva York. Lozier graduó Syracuse Medical College en 1853. En 1863 abrió el Colegio Médico de Nueva York y el Hospital para Mujeres en la ciudad de Nueva York. Las mujeres vinieron de todo el mundo para entrenar con ella.
