Van Veerendael fue influenciado por dos de los principales pintores de flores en Amberes, Jan Davidsz de Heem y Daniel Seghers. En este trabajo temprano la evidencia de observación aguda parece un legado de los orígenes holandeses de De Heem, pero el diseño general y la vivienda sobre los detalles botánicos continúan la tradición flamenca del maestro de Segher, Jan Brueghel el Viejo.
