Pirosmani no tenía mucha vida familiar. A los seis años, su hermano mayor murió, seguido por ambos padres dos años después. Sus otras dos hermanas fueron a vivir con otros parientes, dejando al joven solo. He was taken in by his father’s employer and his wife, who had six children. Aunque Pirosmani vivió con la familia durante más de 15 años, era poco más que una mascota familiar, cuidando de los niños más jóvenes, y dando muy poca orientación. La ingenuidad infantil de Pirosmani en la pintura puede haber tenido más que debido a la falta de cuidado que recibió mientras crece más que su falta de una educación formal en la pintura.
