Paul Iribe es uno de los pioneros del Art Deco. Sus diseños para muebles, joyería, telas, decoración de escenarios y trajes de teatro muestran el cambio de sentido de estilo que sustituyó el Art Nouveau de 1910 en adelante y desarrolló un nuevo repertorio de formas. En opinión de Iribe, el mobiliario debe reflejar la estética contemporánea. Sin embargo, rechazó formas cubistas o muebles hechos a máquina.
