Un retrato marido y mujer – menos la esposa. Mira de cerca, y verás un toque de encaje en la esquina inferior derecha de la pintura. Eso es todo lo que queda de la primera esposa del Dr. Gray Hassell, Eliza, que murió en 1926. Aparentemente, su segunda esposa, Brownie Goddard, tuvo su predecesor literalmente cortado de la imagen. El Dr. Hassell nació en Ōamaru y se entrenó como médico en Escocia. Pasó la mayor parte de su carrera de trabajo a cargo del hospital mental de Porirua.
