Pietro da Cortona es más conocido por su obra maestra de ilusionismo barroco, el techo del Gran Salón del PalazzoBarberini, Roma, fresco entre 1632 y 1639. Depicting an Allegory of Divine Providence, el techo glorifica a la familia Barberini, incluyendo al Papa Urbano VIII. Este estudio es preparatorio para la figura femenina que personifica a Roma. Una exposición experta de la forma preescrutada de la figura, iluminada desde arriba, es uno de los estudios más bellos relacionados con la comisión.
