En la visión general del siglo XVII veneciano la figura de Muttoni es inusual y típica. Un copista y falsificador de grandes maestros del siglo XVI, especialmente Giorgione y Titian, estaba muy demandado por coleccionistas privados. Y sin embargo no era insensible a la pintura realista de su tiempo, como se puede ver en este tema picaresco.
