El monje budista Zen Sakugen Shūryō viajó a China dos veces en misiones comerciales, en 1541 y 1547, cuando como enviado principal se le concedió una audiencia con el emperador Ming. Sakugen mantuvo cuentas detalladas de sus viajes y transcribieron inscripciones en placas y tabletas en lugares famosos. Esta sección cepillada dinámicamente registra notas sobre manantiales de agua celebrados en la región de Jiangsu, que visitó durante su primer viaje: “La primavera llamada Zhon Lingquan en el monte Jin, en el corazón del río Yangzi, se llama la fuente número uno de agua bajo el cielo. La del Templo Huishan en el Feng Jinlong se cuenta como Número Dos. Jianchi Pond en el Templo Huqiu en Suzhou es el número tres. ”
