Esbozo preparatorio en tinta negra y pigmento rojo mostrando ramas de un árbol de flor de ciruela roja. Katei desarrolló amistades con algunos de los hombres chinos que sirvieron en la embajada de Tokio. En 1879, Shen Meishi otorgó el nombre poético de ‘Red Plum Embankment Hall’ en la residencia de Katei recientemente construida. En el arte de Asia oriental, la flor de ciruela significa el fin del invierno y la llegada de la primavera.
