El transporte ferroviario en Pakistán comenzó en 1855 durante el Raj Británico, cuando varias compañías ferroviarias comenzaron a dar pistas y comenzaron a operar en Pakistán actual. El sistema fue originalmente un patchwork de líneas ferroviarias locales operadas por pequeñas empresas privadas, incluyendo el Scinde, Punjab y Delhi Railways y la Flotilla Indus Steam. En 1870, las cuatro compañías fueron amalgamadas como el Scinde, Punjab & Delhi Railway.
