El artista compuso este collar festoon de retratos de sus hijos, nueve ovalos de marfil vinculados como un collar para su esposa, Jane Cook (1806-1889). Como se retrató, los niños oscilan entre uno y dieciséis años; el primogénito, Carlos, murió en 1831 y está representado póstumamente en el oval más pequeño del centro. Los otros niños son (izquierda a derecha): Lydia M. (1837-1927), George F. (1835-1910), Henry R. (1829-1873), Thomas A. (1825-1859), Rebecca C. (1827-1859), Jane E. (1831-1903), Charles P. (1833-1879), y Sarah A. (1840-1919). Los Cummingses más tarde tuvieron cinco hijos más.
