Gran retrato del Presidente George Washington (1732-1799), Comandante en Jefe del Ejército Continental durante la Revolución Americana y Primer Presidente de los Estados Unidos. El general Washington no está representado en una ocasión específica, sino que el cuadro evoca el icono nacional que había tomado forma durante los años 1790, cuando el presidente Washington estaba en el cargo y Filadelfia era la capital.
