Este monumental gabinete independiente viene de las colecciones reales inglesas. Fue producida en los grandes talleres ducales de Florencia en el período del Gran Duque Ferdinando II. Este tipo de muebles funcionaba como una caja fuerte diseñada para contener tesoros de joyas, gemas, cameos, monedas, medallones, etc. En este ejemplo, doce paneles con incrustaciones de piedra semipreciosa forman el fulcrum de todo el esquema decorativo. Tres de estos paneles dominan el frente: muestran amplias vistas arquitectónicas y paisajísticas, inspiradas en la pintura del siglo XVII. Los otros paneles representan gemelos vegetales y composiciones florales.
