Entre las últimas obras de Titian, producidas en 1575-76, dos eran comisiones oficiales: una para el Palazzo Ducale, que representa Doge Antonio Grimani Kneeling Antes de la Fe, y la segunda para Felipe II, representando a España Succouring Religion. Este último conmemora la participación de la flota española en la Batalla de Lepanto.
