Tosini, quien entró en el taller de Ridolfo Ghirlandaio, colaboró con frecuencia con Ridolfo. La práctica continua de Ridolfo y su taller, con su estilo familiar, legible y definitivo de fuerza y encanto inconfundible, en muchos retablos posteriores producidos después de 1550, como el martirio de las Diez Mil, fue la clave para su éxito y garantizó la popularidad inquebrantable de este estilo fundamentalmente predecible pero probado hasta finales del siglo. Esta pintura es el resultado de una colaboración de Michele Tosini y Ridolfo Ghirlandaio.
