La Virgen y el Niño están sentados sobre un manzano, cuya forma se asemeja explícitamente a la del Árbol de la Vida del pintor Giovanni Segantini (1894). En el fondo es un vasto paisaje de Trentino lleno de símbolos - la vaca con su becerro, el campo del trigo maduro - que evoca la prosperidad impulsada por la armonía. En primer lugar hay símbolos eucarísticos del vino y del pan, así como los símbolos marianos de la rosa, el lirio y el jarrón transparente, todos los cuales aluden a la virginidad de María.
