Pintor Ulysse Butin (1838-1883) le gustaba representar la vida diaria de pescadores y costeros. En esta pintura describe la procesión de un ex-voto, un tema ofrecido en un lugar sagrado como agradecimiento por una intervención divina. En la mitad inferior de la pintura horizontal, se observan varios grupos que se dirigen a la iglesia. Situado en un paseo marítimo, la escena tiene vistas al mar gris en el fondo. En el centro, tres elementos forman un triángulo significativo: el pequeño velero (objeto de voto) dirigido por una mujer; su marido, que la sigue y sostiene a su hijo menor; y el crucifijo, que los domina. Denota el papel determinante de la divinidad en los viajes en el mar. Los tres hombres agradecen a Dios por haberlos mantenido vivos durante una tormenta en el mar, a la que el cielo gris y nublado todavía lleva testamento.
