Aunque nació en una familia de guerreros relativamente altos, de una edad joven, Uragami Gyokudō expresó más interés en la literatura, la pintura y la música. Finalmente renunció a su posición en cuarenta y nueve años y viajó ampliamente por el resto de su vida. En este trabajo tardío ejecutado en breve, meticulosos golpes con un cepillo seco, Gyokudō pinta un pueblo montañoso aislado —barely visible a extrema derecha— aún envuelto en niebla después de la lluvia.
