El joven san Juan Bautista se muestra como "la voz del que clama en el desierto, Preparad el camino del Señor" (Marcos 1:3). La misma juventud reaparece como Daniel en la inocencia de Susanna, a la vista en la siguiente galería. Como se registra en la inscripción, esta imagen fue dada a la Catedral de San Juan Bautista en 1733 y fue colgada fuera del día de fiesta del santo, que explica su condición comprometida. Valentin aquí reinterpreta un famoso trabajo de Caravaggio con la postura activa y la voz casi audible del santo.
