El Retrato de Mademoiselle Claus fue una versión temprana del trabajo más famoso de Manet El Balcón donde Mademoiselle Claus está representado con Berthe Morisot y Antoine Guillemet. La versión anterior inacabada fue pintada en 1868. Poco después de la muerte de Manet, fue adquirida por John Singer Sargent en 1884. Sólo se ha mostrado públicamente una vez en los últimos 100 años en la Galería Nacional durante una retrospectiva de las obras del artista en el 100 aniversario de su muerte.
