En el otoño de 1906, Sickert pintó una serie de modelos que le posaron en su habitación de hotel de París, después recordando que "la alcoba de las camas en algunas de las habitaciones están bellamente iluminadas". Un grupo de estas imágenes, que recuerdan a las vistas de las lagunas de Degas y Bonnard que Sickert sabía, fueron incluidas en una exposición celebrada en Galerie Bernheim-Jeune en París a principios de 1907. En el catálogo acompañante, esta obra se llamaba La Maigre Adeline (Thin Adeline).
