El sitter lleva un parecido a Hendrickje Stoffels (nacido alrededor de 1625–26, murió 1663), la esposa de Rembrandt y el tema de varios de sus retratos, uno de los cuales está en El Met. La imagen es obra de un alumno de Rembrandt, y la fuerte luz que golpea la cara sugiere que puede ser por el Barent Fabritius. Otra versión es en Dresden.
