En julio de 1943, Xu Beihong dirigió parte del personal de la Academia de Arte de China en un viaje a la montaña Qingcheng del condado de Guan para pasar el verano y la pintura. Viajó con Li Ruinian, Fei Chengwu, Zhang Qianying, Sun Zongwei, Yu Feng y Liao Jingwen.
