En el año Bingyin (1926), Xu Beihong fue de 32. La inscripción en el lado izquierdo inferior de la pintura dice: “Beihong, invierno del año Bingyin (1926)”. En su autobiografía, en las propias palabras de Xu Beihong, el pintor escribió: “Yo hice el mayor trabajo en el año Bingyin (1926), y algunos de ellos fueron excepcionales”. Flute Music se completó en un estudio de sexto piso en el octavo distrito de París, basado en un dibujo Xu realizado en 1924. La figura de la pintura era la esposa de Xu Beihong en ese momento, Jiang Biwei.
