Este pequeño álbum fue hecho para su inclusión en una “caja de seguridad”, uno de los elaborados contenedores de objetos preciosos que eran favoritos del emperador Qianlong (r. 1736–95) de la dinastía Qing (1644–1911). Los álbumes eran especialmente adecuados para satisfacer el amor de las miniaturas de Qianlong, pero los pintores de la corte como Zhang Zongcang también fueron obligados a producir pequeños handcrolls para cajas de tesoros.
